CATHOLICISM 101

Catholicism 101 is a family-friendly program of formation according to the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formerly known as RCIA) which fulfills the requirements for adults and children over the age of 7 who have not been baptized or received into the Catholic Church.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

  • Anyone who is not Catholic but wants to learn more about the Catholic faith

  • Adults who are unbaptized and want to become Catholic by baptism

  • Children who are unbaptized and over the age of 7 and want to become Catholic by baptism

  • Adults or children who are baptized in another Christian tradition and wish to be received into full communion in the Catholic Church

  • Adults who are already baptized Catholic, but have not received Confirmation or First Communion

  • Recent converts to Catholicism who have already received their sacraments but want to continue their intellectual and spiritual formation

Meetings begin with time for fellowship and a shared meal, as well as presentations on Catholic doctrine, life, and prayer from parish clergy and catechists. Parallel sessions are offered for both adults and children who are in preparation to receive the sacraments. Candidates also receive the opportunity to meet one-on-one with our catechist team outside of our meetings for individual mentorship. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children even if you have already received all your sacraments - this is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your own knowledge of the faith and grow in community with other Catholics!

The initiation process is much more than a series of classes one must take before joining the Catholic Church. It is a rich and grace-filled journey in which one encounters and walks with Jesus Christ and learns how to follow him in a new and deeper way. For more information, please contact the parish office.
